The Raconteurs w/ The Kills @ Malkin Bowl

[My one shitty picture of the Kills because my camera is a piece of shit with a flash that apparently is only good for objects about 12 cm away or something]

It's always a bit of a downer being one of maybe three people who are more excited to see the opening act, than the headliner, but I'll take what I can get. After years of being under-age and one or two missed opportunities I finally got to see The Kills and they were worth the wait. They sounded amazing and had some incredible stage chemistry. It's too bad most of the crowd didn't really seem into it and was pretty subdued the whole time. I wish they could have played longer, and I definitely won't be missing them again next time they come through town.

During the break while they set up for the Raconteurs it became pretty clear that at least a few people in this crowd weren't going to just peacefully enjoy the show. Just once I'd like to not be near that one group of drunken asshole frat boys who decided to push their way to the front and try to start a mosh pit when clearly no one else is feeling it. Simple rule: if you're out at an all ages show and you notice no one else is drunk, maybe you should slip that mickey of Fireball you snuck in with you back in your pocket and sit the fuck down.

I'll be honest, I've been a little disappointed by the Raconteurs recorded work (I think it has to do with me liking Jack so much more than Brendan), but they know how to put on an amazing show. They were really loose and seemed to be enjoying themselves (unlike their gig at the Commodore back in April), and played a pretty varied set, throwing in at least one cover and reworking a couple of favourites. They ended their too brief performance with a singalong of “Carolina Drama” and brought the show to a close at around 9:40, which is something I can appreciate on a school night.
