What We Turned in 2008

Last year [JEEBUS, TIME! STOP MOVING SO FAST!], more than most years I can think of, I was that "OMG, I HEARD THIS SONG 18,392 MONTHS AGO. AND SO I'M THAT MUCH BETTER THAN YOU" girl. (What can I say. I'm a pretentious cunt.) Anyway, here's our list of what we turned in '08.

10. The Kills - Hook and Line

To be honest, I sort of forgot about The Kills for a while between records, but then they came back with this record and this song that reminded me of every reason why I loved the Kills. It's raw, dirty, and apparently perfect for tv show soundtracks.

09. Beyonce - Radio

Sasha Fierce made me want to listen to the radio again. So I did. Then I immediately turned it back off. Irregardless. Song made me dance.

08. Sam Sparro - Black & Gold

Appropriate for either the dance floor or doing your homework, this song has a sick electro-inspired beat with just a hint of soul. I dare you to listen and not get hooked.

07. Gym Class Heroes feat. The-Dream - Cookie Jar

I've been having a secret love affair with The-Dream since I Luv Your Girl ("secret" because homeboy is ugly as shit) but only after annoying T over the phone by playing this song on repeat did we really come out as a couple.

06. N*E*R*D feat. CRS and Pusha T - Everyone Nose (Remix)

Song has everything we could want in a song: a Britney refernce, a Laloo reference, a MK reference, and Kanye rapping. What more could you want? Plus, I'm a firm believer that Lupe's verse is talks to me.

05. Young Jeezy feat. NaS - My President

This song made me cry on the day of the election. In the morning before the results, after the results came in, and the next day. This plus the SNL Weekend Update Song about the voting machine problems, only made my election day fever rise.

04. Mariah Carey feat. Young Jeezy - Side Effects

It's a damn shame that Mariah's label decided to put this on the backburner and not release it as an official single. Not only is the song fucking epic, it's dope as fuck and she performed it live effortlessly (as evidenced above). And Jeezy on the record doesn't hurt it much either.

03. Lil Wayne feat. Kanye West - Lollipop (Remix)

I've had "YOU'RE NOW FUCKING WITH THE BEST IN THE WORLD" as a ringtone for over 7 months now. I first heard this shit on a video on Kanye's blog --he was playing it as he played Connect 4 with Jonah Hill. I spun this shit a million times before we went to see Samantha Ronson, so by the time she put this shit on, I was screaming the lyrics at the top of my lungs --much to the chagrin of the older, more G', clubgoers on stage who had the "How the fuck does this little asian girl and this weird mexican girl with curly hair know all the words to this song that we haven't even fucking heard!?" face on the entire damn time.

02. Lindsay Lohan - Bossy

While we're majorly dissapointed that Spirit In The Dark didn't come out this year, we're glad that we at least got this. It made for some fucking epic times when Samantha Ronson played it, and we were the only ones who knew it. We are all "OMG OMG OMG CALM DOWN CALM DOWN CALM DOWN LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL JUST A LITTLE BOSSY OMG OMG OMG OMG LLOLOLOLOL" X 1890489128410924182409 the entire fucking time..

01. T.I. - Whatever You Like

Of course he's fucking number one. Couldn't leave my husband off this fucking list. While we both thoroughlt enjoyed all of Paper Trail, Whatever You Like seemed to be the most played for both of us this year, with T playing it 109 times and me playing it a recorded 425 (that doesn't include the number of times I watched the video, or listened to it in the car with my family).
